Hypnosis in the alleviation of anxiety

Susan Gaffney Australian Journal of Clinical & Experimental Hypnosis, 1993 This case illustrates the effectiveness of hypnosis in alleviating anxiety and any allied physical symptoms, which can be a considerable inconvenience and embarrassment to the person concerned. It is a case of a 38-yr-old woman who presented in a state of panic about giving a paper at a seminar for colleagues in her profession. Self-hypnotic techniques were aimed at reducing autonomic arousal, building self-esteem and confidence, and developing and reinforcing feelings of security and control. In reducing her anxiety she was also able to gain control over the extremely distressing problem of excessive sweating which had troubled her since her teenage years.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved)
